{Hubby Wardrobe Makeover}

My husband 9.5 out of 10 times will just wears jeans and a t-shirt. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’s hot in whatever he wears. But hubby has slowly allowed me to improve his wardrobe. It’s kinda cute that he dresses like a seventeen year old, were he needs to dress his age; almost 25.

I collected some inspiration on Pinterest on outfits he could easily pull off.

Fall 2012 Trends

Last night was the first time I slept with a blanket, Fall is finally here! And with the new season, we pack away our bathing suits and start to pull out our Fall clothes. There is nothing more delicious than September issues, quilted coats, velvety slacks and oxford shoes. Along with the new trends, there are also colors that come out for the new season.

When looking into your Fall wardrobe, focus on the colors– Cranberry, Mustard, Jade, Plum, Gold, and Forest Green.

Now let’s get to the trends…

GOLD: The shimmery color can be used for the majority of the outfit or just as accent.

Marc Jacobs, Juicy Couture & a Wedding

What a lovely summer night! Fiance tried to clean (fix) my fan and ended up breaking it. So now we’re sweating buckets while watching a movie and eating dinner.

I made us a succulent dinner consisting of lasagna hamburger helper and flavorful spicy western chicken ceaser salad tonight. A culinary masterpiece, don’t you you think?! I’m so excited for the times to come after our wedding, where we can host dinner parties. Secretly I want to be a 50’s house wife, wearing the pearls while creating amazing meals for friends and family.

We are THREE WEEKS away from our wedding! Can you believe it???? It’s such an exciting, overwhelming, stressful, happy, anxious, ecstatic time in my life! I have like 3487482348903 things to do before the wedding (or at least it feels that way.) I can’t wait to post pictures of the wedding! Speaking of, I never shared our engagement pics, here we go… Image

Let me catch you up on what’s been going on in the fantastic world of internships:

1. Barbara Fields Buying Office was a wonderful experience this past Spring/Summer 2012 semesters. Working in a trend and color forecasting firm has been so fulfilling and I’ve learned so much.

2. Since we’re getting married, I’ve been in the search for a paid internship… I’ll let you know when I find one.

3. Last week, I randomly thought it would be fun to send my resume to EVERYONE at Marc Jacobs. Under their Internship page on the company website, there was a lot of contacts that I used. Surprisingly, they responded! I honestly wasn’t expecting anything. But they contacted ME! A woman in the accessories department of the Marc Jacobs collection, contacted me wanting me to be an intern. Some facts about the internship is, it’s in NYC (totally awesome, but kinda far away from LA), it’s unpaid… yeah, those are really the only facts that matter. When I found out that Marc Jacobs was even a possibility, I cried. I don’t mean a little boo-hoo, but balling my eyes out to the point my fiance had no idea what I was saying. I got really really depressed, because it would mean being away from my new husband (internship would start right after wedding) and it’s unpaid, so it would be hard to support myself. But my fiance was a saint and blessed this adventure. Through many days of going back and forth between decisions, I made the mature decision to stay here in LA with my fiance.

During this time though, I had been in contact with Juicy Couture. I have always admired the brand and working for them would really be awesome. Yesterday, I went to one of their showrooms in Downtown LA. The showroom was absolutely glorious. So colorful, so creative… so magical. To put it in a nutshell, I got the internship and I’ll start work soon. YAY!

New internship! (WOO-HOO!) Wedding in 3 weeks! (WOO-HOO!)

Waldo? More like, “Where’s Lauren?”

Wow, where have I been? My blog feels like a child that’s been neglected. So sorry.

Well, where do I begin? A lot of things have happened. A lot of good stuff and not so great stuff. There is one particular thing that I can’t tell until the times right. And trust me, it’s worth the wait, because it’s amazing.

Hmm… So let’s see, last time I posted I was working at Disneyland. Well, now I’m working at Macy’s and still employed by Disneyland. Disneyland was an amazing, I got to see numerous celebrities. I had panic attacks on a daily basis because I would get so star struck. My co-workers would usher me to the back room before a celebrity would come in, because they knew I would make a scene. Ha, wimps. Oh, I forgot to tell you what I did there. I was a hostess for one of the restaurants for one of the hotels. Anyways, working at Disneyland was awesome.

Now I’m working at Macy’s. I worked there when I was 16, so it kinda was like riding a bike. To tell you the truth, I find the job incredibly boring and I need more of a challenge. I’ll be sending my resume out soon.

Things with my boyfriend are… just amazing. He’s my best friend and partner in life. I love him so very much.

He’s a keeper.

So since this blog is supposed to be about fashion, I might as well talk about what I’ve been learning in school. The fashion class I’m taking this semester is Fashion Buying (Goal is to be a Buyer.)

[Hold on a second… sorry, the song playing on Spotify was bugging me]

Fashion Buying has been an interesting class. Up until about… now, I’ve been enjoying the class. Just last week, we started getting into the math part of the class. [Insert barfing noise] I know math is involved, but I’m horrible at it and I’m in denial that it’s important. But anyways, it is an interesting class, and I do want to pursue Fashion Buying as a career. I’ll share a few things I’ve learned this semester. [I’ll make it simple, for those of you who are not familiar with retail/fashion.]

What is Inventory?

  1. Represents the amount of money a retailer has invested in stock; all sales come from inventory
  2. Inventory as an asset has an impact on net wort
  3. To prepare financial statements retailers need to know the value of their inventory
  4. Most reliable method of finding worth: a physical inventory, actually counting
  5. To avoid many costly counts, perpetual inventory adjusts purchases and physical
  6. In theory, book inventory should always equal physical inventory
  7. Running inventory- what you think you have is reality

I need to get to class, so I’ll teach you more about inventory later.

Globalization of the Fashion Industry

Globalization At It’s Best

Forget sex… let’s talk about business baby, just you and me. Globalization has forever changed the fashion industry. It has changed where things are made, sold and how different companies compete with each other.

Imports and exports are very important aspects that every nation needs to take into consideration. Generally speaking, every nation would like to have equal parts of imports coming in and exports going out.

For those of you who have no clue what I’m talking about… Exports are products or services that one country sells and ships to another. Imports are merchandise brought in from another country for resale or other purposes.

All Industry Segments Are Affected by Globalization

Textile Producers: They usually buy their products from other countries for a lower, more affordable price. Many textile producers import yarns needed to produce the fabric.

Apparel Firms: They have their product made in different countries where there is more labor available for a lower price. Different companies like Liz Claiborne and Nike have their garments make in dozens of countries.

Retailers: They are also very active global players. Retailers have been part of the global economy for a very long time. They have traveled to other countries to buy lines for their stores. But more recently, they have gone a step farther. They have started to include private-label lines, taking on many roles that are usually taken care of by the manufacturer.

Consumers: A huge link in the global fashion economy. 60 to 70 percent of apparel sold in America is made in different countries, the need for imports are growing at a rapid pace. In the past, the global brands were usually only connected with luxury labels, like Chanel and Rolex. But as time and technology increases, consumers all over the world tend to want the same things, forcing the fact that export and imports will increase in the global economy. There are three major reasons it’s become easier to share and receive products from different countries: 1) The ability to use credit cards to pay for any product anywhere; 2) Internet allows apparel firms and retailers to sell to anyone in any location; 3) Worldwide delivery systems like Federal Express

Who Imports and Why

There are three major categories of fashion merchandising imported into the United States: 1) Fabric and yarn; 2) ready-to-wear merchandise that is totally designed and produced by foreign manufacturers and is generally purchased by retail buyers for resale; 3) merchandise that is contracted out to oversea factories for all or part of the production process and then is returned to the United States.

The reasons for the high growth rate of imports can be very different. Some of them include: Lower prices– U.S. labor costs are so much more expensive than the third world countries that are willing to work for any wage. Availability of hand labor– Many other countries have more hand labor capabilities than America has. Hand labor increases in price in more developed countries. Product voids in the United States– Category of merchandise that the United States doesn’t have a good resource of or doesn’t make well, like cashmere from Scotland and leather from Spain. Other reasons include Exclusive rights, fashion cachet of Europe, etc.

No Name

Hi everyone, sorry that I have been gone. I hadn’t felt very inspired lately to blog about anything of any importance. But NOW I am. A lot has happened in the past couple months. Hmm… let’s contemplate on these said subjects and other various topics while we inhale a bowel of Golden Grahams.

1. I love Golden Grahams. They tasty, mmmmm.

2. That reminded me of the Golden Girls for some reason.

3. And that reminded me of Betty White! Oh gosh, Betty rocks. I saw You Again this past weekend, it is super cute and a must see date movie… although I went alone… *cough*LOSER*cough*

4. Working for Nordstroms Rack has been very interesting and a wonderful experience. It has been HARD WORK. All my past experience in retail has nothin’ on it.

5. I got to play with the designer shoes today. I started to drool over a pair of Kate Spade heels and began to moan and squeal over a pair of Badgley Mishaka pumps. [My name is Lauren… and I have a problem.]

6. Ughhhh… I need to go to bed like in 5 minutes. I’m an old man at heart and I have to get my beauty sleep because I have work at 7 am.

7. I bought a TV the other day. My old roommate moved out and took the TV and my other roommate demands that I help pay for the cable… when I didn’t have a TV? So I had to get a TV. I’m blonde at heart and I am having great difficulty putting it together. I NEED TO WATCH GOSSIP GIRL, DAMN IT.

8. I need to clean up my vocabulary, don’t tell my mother that.

9. Mom, if you’re reading this– Sorry.

10. Speaking of linguistics, since living in LA, I noticed I have been talking “differently.” I don’t know how to explain it, but I sound like I’m Southern and I know how to make a mean batch of fried chicken and creme corn. I kinda like it.

11. I have a project due in my Fashion Merchandising class soon. I was going to do it on fashion shows, but I’m changing my mind… I’ll keep you posted.

12. I should be telling you about what I have been learning about in my Fashion Merchandising class! I’ll save that for the next post…

13. #nowplaying Michael and Janet Jackson– Scream

14. What should I wear to work tomorrow? I need to mix it up.

15. I’ve been having luck in the love department lately. [blushes and changes topics]

16. I’m in the mood to eat something incredibly bad and delicious.

17. Why am I not asleep yet???? I’m going to be a bitch in the morning lol. [Repeat #8]

18. ALEXANDER MCQUEEN SPRING 2011 IS AMAZING. Did I need to yell that? YES I DID.

Sarah Burton [took over for McQueen] IS A GENIUS

Hellooooooo? Is it not obvious how amazing every single piece of this collection is? [shakes head in disbelief.] I cannot believe that such masterpieces even exist!

Wow. I get emotional over fashion a little too easily. Somebody, QUICK– Hand me an Ambien.

Emmys, Nordstrom and Fashion Shows

Let me update on what’s been going on lately. First let’s start with the fashion show that I volunteered for. It was very different, because I thought it was going to be a traditional fashion show. But no, it was a type of “platform modeling,” where the models had to be on platforms and pretend they were mannequins. It was very interesting to say the least. I was in charge of styling and dressing two models, a women and a little kid. It was a fun experience!

The Emmys just happened last night and everyone looked beautiful, here are some of my favorites…

Eva Longoria Parker in Robert Rodriguez

Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta

Heidi Klum (My personal favorite)

And last but not least… I just found out that I got the job for Nordstrom! They said that they enjoyed my enthusiam and excitement and they would love to have me work in the Shoe Department. YAY! [Insert happy dance]
