Emmys, Nordstrom and Fashion Shows

Let me update on what’s been going on lately. First let’s start with the fashion show that I volunteered for. It was very different, because I thought it was going to be a traditional fashion show. But no, it was a type of “platform modeling,” where the models had to be on platforms and pretend they were mannequins. It was very interesting to say the least. I was in charge of styling and dressing two models, a women and a little kid. It was a fun experience!

The Emmys just happened last night and everyone looked beautiful, here are some of my favorites…

Eva Longoria Parker in Robert Rodriguez

Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta

Heidi Klum (My personal favorite)

And last but not least… I just found out that I got the job for Nordstrom! They said that they enjoyed my enthusiam and excitement and they would love to have me work in the Shoe Department. YAY! [Insert happy dance]

Poppa & Diane Keaton

It is officially birthday weekend for my Poppa. I left Long Beach early this morning to make it into Palm Desert for lunch. It was on the cold side this morning, so I put on a black suede skirt, black tube-top and black lace top. HAHA. That was a mistake! My air conditioning in my car is broken and once I entered the Palm Desert area… Oh boy, Hell hath no fury. 120 degrees.

So once I see my family, hug the birthday boy; I soak up the fact that the house is like ice. Hallelujah. My cousin and dad decide to break open my car, try to fix my broken window. I stood outside, looking useless while holding a wrench. I decide that it was a stupid idea, wearing black standing in the burning heat. So I go inside and turn on the telly and start watching one of my favorite movies. Because I Said So, Diane Keaton is one of my favorite actresses. As the movie starts, I desperately raid my grandparents kitchen [note that I have been living on my own for two weeks now, and I am very malnourished.] So I find a giant box of Mini Nilla cookies and dive in.

One thing I have noticed is that I love Diane Keaton’s wardrobe in this movie. [High-five to the costume designer.] The full 50’s inspired skirts; belts cinched at the waist, and patterned ascots.

Ohhhhhh boy, I am loving the Nilla cookies… I should stop.

Eh, not yet.

I’m in my Nana’s kitchen while writing this, the TV is sitting on the counter and right next to it, is a copy of The French Chef Cookbook by Julia Child. In the picture on the cover, Julia is wearing a similar dress that Mandy Moore’s character in Because I Said So, wears, red polka dot dress.  I notice the weirdest things when I’m hungry.

Hmm… What other things can I notice while I sit here famished?

Everyone is getting ready to go out to dinner and I just brought one fancy(ish) outfit, the one I’m wearing. Oh well, I guess I’m ahead of the game.

[Insert male announcer voice: We will resume our story once Lauren return’s from dinner. Please stay tuned.]

Well, I had my share of Lobster Mac & Cheese and delishious Screwdrivers last night, so I passed out when we got home. Actually I got into my sleeping bag and watched The Holiday. This morning we went to church as a family and it was very nice. The whole congregation sang Happy Birthday to my poppa, while he sat there with a giant grin on his face.

Meena [my cousin’s dog who came with my cousin and his wife] is growling at me right now, as I’m eating Laughing Cow Cheese and crackers.

[Fakes out the dog by pretending to throw the cracker across the room.]

So anyways, my Nana and her sister are in the kitchen making her famous lasagna, while all the men are in the living room [all asleep] watching The Golfing Channel.

Ohhhh, no… Meena’s back.

After dinner, I have to drive my dad and aunt to the airport on my way to Long Beach.

Haha, I have lost the point to this blog… so I guess I’ll end it and walk Meena.
